Good ole Honda Dealer not even knowing to tell you and how many other people that there is free updates for 5 years. It supposedly saves your settings from before, but others have said it doesn't. If it fails you will have to repeat the load process again (I never have had this problem, but others have.) Pull your memory stick out and you should be able to start the NAVI up. Again do not do anything with the ODY unless you are driving it, when the program is done installing, it will let you know it is done. It will take roughly 30 minutes to put it on the ODY. Put your memory stick in again same place. Get into your NAVI system again and go into the map update again. I sit with the ODY running (my preference) to install the update. You will need to leave the ignition on during this installation process, if you have a battery maintainer, I would put it on your battery while the ignition is in the ON position. Caution: do not do anything else with you NAVI or shut the ODY off for no reason, it will screw up your NAVI and it will not function correctly. When it is done downloading to your memory stick take it out to your ODY. It will take it 20-30 minutes depending on your Internet connection speed. If it allows you to continue and download the new update it will start downloading to your memory stick. This is the point where it knows if you have free updates coming your way. The program checks your memory stick for the file that was written on it from the ODY and verify's if their is a newer version for the ODY, if so it will say their is a newer version. First time: you will have to register, than select add device, I think they call the memory stick a ANT. Stick your memory stick into the computer and run the Garmin Express on your computer. It is a program that looks at your memory stick and capture the data the ODY wrote on it. Now go to ( Automotive Maps and Map Updates | Garmin) then select to download Garmin Express. I cannot recall what step is next but it is self-explanatory and than it will write to your USB stick, takes just a few seconds. Enter into the Navigation screen and select Settings>Map Update. Was this not available to you? I would give it a try, you need a minimum size 16GB memory stick - format it Fat32, than in the center console the driver's side USB port, insert the memory stick. When we bought our 2018 Elite, they informed us that we would get 5 years from date of purchase to download a free yearly update from Garmin.
